Two Huge Hints That Will Help You Ace Your Paper

We are all given opportunities to free write or pick our own topics to write about, but sometimes it's not as easy as it could be. Here are two quick hints up keep in mind when you write your paper.

Write About Something You Are Passionate About
The easiest way to do this, at least for me is to link my paper to what I'm an trying to accomplish in my life. For example the things that I am passionate about include my family, my religion, entrepreneurial activities, running, swimming, and rock climbing. I have used all of these subjects over and over because I am passionate about them. It is much easier to write a paper when you know and understand what you are writing about, it's a much more difficult write when you force yourself into writing something you are not passionate about.

Remember Your Audience
Although it's important to keep your teacher or professor in mind, DO NOT choose them as your audience. You can think yourself in a hole or loose the pizzazz you may have had when you selected your topic that you were passionate about. Choose a different person besides your teacher or professor and address it to them; you can choose a close friend, the President of the United States, or your roommate and then have them read it (you may not be able to do this with the President). Doing this will really help you see how well you focus in on your audience.

Formal or Informal Paper

In college you'll write many papers that are formal and informal. When you begin writing a paper make sure you know if it is a formal or informal paper. Just so that we are clear on what a formal or informal paper is lets dig into the definition of both a little bit.

A formal paper is usually a research paper, a term paper, and book reports. An active voice is usually used when writing one of these papers. It's also important to use viable resources. If the paper is about Tibet your best friend who read about Tibet will probably not be the best source. The best sources are usually from Ph.D's and other research professionals. Ph.D's and other research professionals have been trained to research in so that the information they gather is clean and clear.

An informal paper can be a write-up, journal entry, or a personal paper. These papers are not as strong on the sources and can even be written in first voice (your own voice). These papers can be fun because they give you an opportunity to speak your mind.

Hopefully these definitions of a formal and informal paper will help you discern what kind of a paper to write. If you have any questions you can visit www.monsterpapers.com , this website has a lot great resources to help you with your formal and informal papers.

Managing Term Papers

Whelp... were back from Christmas break and ready to get another semester/term started, right? I'm not sure about your but I'm not sure if I am ever ready to hit the books, it usually takes me a good week of procrastination before the work stacks up so high that I have to study and begin writing the papers I'm assigned. Yesterday was my first day of class and it was nice to walk around campus and feel like I had the time to stop and chat with some friends if I wanted to. I'm just about to finish my Junior year at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and in my vast experience there are a few things that I've picked up on that have really helped me in my paper-writing.

Paper-writing is largely about managing information and then communicating that information effectively, here are some pointers to help you do that:

• The first bit of information that needs to carefully be picked apart is the topic or base question. Often students quickly read through the topic or base question and begin writing about the first thing that comes to their mind. Take the time to analyze what needs to be written and be sure that your writings completely answer the assigned topic or question.

• Throughout the semester keep a list of essential statistics, dates, or other very specific information, these should be separate from your class notes. These specifics build credibility to your argument and information.

• Use tools to validate your learning and research such as www.wikipedia.com, www.webster.com, and search engines. These may not be the best sources to use for your paper, but they can point you to primary research as well as help you formulate a stronger paper.

• Start early, even if it’s just sitting and pondering about it. There’s nothing more paralyzing than realizing that you have a paper due tomorrow and you haven’t yet started on it. If you know when your paper is due and you give yourself plenty of time to think about it you’ll find that writing the paper will be much more fluid.

• Lastly, just relax and make sure you make time for your social life and having fun.

I've learned that school has taught me more than anything to manage my time and priorities and I've realized that if my priorities are right and I make sure I make ample time for my papers and tests that I usually do well. Also, there are many other tools that are very helpful. When you get a moment you can check out www.monsterspapers.com, they have helped thousands of students write all kinds of papers.

Well, I hope you have the best semester and please let me know if you have any questions or need any advice... advice about school that is, dating is a whole nother thing I'm still trying to learn, but once I get it down I'll be sure to blog about it.

Book Report Writing Tips

Now that school is underway, you’ve probably started getting your first assignment. Chances are that you’ve already had to start reading a book for your first book report of the new semester. Don’t fret! The Term Paper Blog and MonsterPapers.com have the tools to help you get started.

The first and most obvious step to writing your book report is to read the assigned book. Not only do you need to read the book, but you also need to evaluate what you’re reading as you read the book. Pay attention to the point of view from which the book is written and what impact this point of view has on the development of the story. You’ll also want to analyze the plot, or the sequence of events, in the story and the setting of the story. Finally, determine what the general theme of the book is when you are finished reading the book.

After you’ve read the book, you’re ready to write your book report. As is common with educational writing, begin your book report with a thesis statement that describes the central theme of your paper. Then continue your book report, using the information you gathered.

As you prepare your book report you may want to look at outside sources. For more than a million examples of term papers, essays, and book reports visit MonsterPapers.com. Many of the book reports in their database include bibliographies that you can use to find more information for your book report. These papers will also help you overcome writer’s block, something that everyone experiences, and get started with writing your latest book report.

The Makings Of A Personal Essay, Really

The Makings Of A Personal Essay, Really
by: Jenna Glatzer

Sometimes I can be dense when it comes to realizing the potential of my own life experiences as essays for magazines. I, of course, fully believe that everything in my life is newsworthy, but sometimes have trouble figuring out which experiences will hit home with other people.

I recently learned the secret, and it can be summarized in one word: “Really?”

My friends know that I can talk. I mean, I can talk! Get me on the phone and I’m likely to tell you all about my day, from my breakfast to my editor’s latest comments to my insomnia. I don’t inflict my tendency toward verbosity on everyone, but at least a few trusted souls get to bear the brunt of my solitary lifestyle and my need to dish.

Their reactions tell me whether or not I have the material for a marketable personal essay.

My all-time best-selling essay is a simple story about a boy who won a stuffed animal for his little sister in a crane machine. When I saw it happen, I was so touched I almost cried. When I retold it to my mom, the tears welled up again. I got to the climactic moment--“And then he bent down and gave the stuffed animal to his little sister and kissed her on the forehead”--and my mom asked, “Really? That’s so sweet!”

Bing. “Really?” translates to “That’s a great story.”

When I tell mom about the new toy I bought for my cat, she never asks, “Really?” She doesn’t press me for details. She probably can’t wait for me to shut up so she can hang up the phone and do something productive that doesn’t involve listening to my escapades with my cat. But when I’ve hit on something that might actually warrant an article, her reaction won’t be a simple “Mmm-hmm,” or “That’s great.” It’ll be a question, or a plea to share more.

The reactions to listen for, in addition to “Really?” are:

    * Then what happened?
* What did you do?
* How did you (/he/she) react?
* Tell me more!
* That’s amazing!
* That’s so cool!

A few weeks ago, I was talking to Jamie Blyth (I’m helping to write his book, Fear Is No Longer My Reality) about how far I’ve come in beating my anxiety disorder. One of the things I mentioned was that I used to have an obsessive-compulsive disorder related to food. He wanted to know more. I explained that I went through a two-year phase where I ate nothing but canned foods and other food with really long shelf lives.

“Really?” he asked.

Oh. I hadn’t thought about that phase of mine in quite some time, and had forgotten that it might be intriguing to people who’ve never experienced OCD. OCD as an overall topic has been done many times, but this detail-- the canned foods and my almost deadly diet-- hasn’t. It doesn’t belong in a how-to article. It works because of the telling, because of the personal nature of the story. And as I sat down to write it, a beautifully marketable essay formed almost effortlessly.

Think about what details of your story set it apart from similar stories. Countless essays have been written about alcoholism, eating disorders, miscarriage, drug abuse, abusive marriages, finding God, giving birth... that doesn’t mean you can’t tell your story. You just have to find a unique angle, a new way of telling it, a nugget that people will remember.

The same effortless type of story formed when I told people how Anthony and I bought our house. We fell so in love with it that we kept coming to visit and take pictures-- we would sit on the other side of the lake, facing the owners’ backyard, and just hug and dream of what it would be like to live there.

When it came time to make an offer, we were immediately outbid by thousands of dollars and couldn’t match the price. We went to say goodbye to the owners, and they told the Realtor to take it off the market—we were the people they wanted to live in the home they’d loved for 40 years. They had seen us from their back window all the times we came to admire the house from afar, and they knew we would appreciate the gardens, the greenhouse, the lake. So they took a loss of thousands of dollars because they wanted us to live our dream.

Quick, what was your reaction to that story? I hope it was “That’s amazing!,” because that’s the reaction I got from nearly everyone who heard the story. Within a couple of weeks of moving in, I sold the essay to A Cup of Comfort and sent the anthology to the previous owners of the house.

If someone’s eyes light up when you tell a story, chances are excellent that there’s a market for it. If one person finds it interesting, inspiring, hilarious, or moving, others likely will, too.

Consider your friends and family your test audience. Test out your experiences on them. If they don’t press you for more details, either the story isn’t there, or you need a more compelling way to tell it.

You can also test by e-mail

The Value of Term Paper Websites

“CITE YOUR SOURCES!” The evils of plagiarism are pounded into students’ heads as soon as they start writing. Most students hearken to the requests of their teachers to be honest and cite their sources in a bibliography. By high school, most have learned how to write a paper using their own thoughts and words. Unfortunately, as technology advances, plagiarism becomes easier. Today’s teachers are dealing with a high-tech version of yesterday’s plagiarism problem. Luckily, the resources that make plagiarism simple also make catching the copiers easier than ever.

Before the internet became popular, teachers had to worry about students copying sections out of encyclopedias and books. It required a lot of photocopying and retyping, which acted as a barrier to plagiarism. This form of academic dishonesty was also fairly easy to catch since the vocabulary of most children is fairly inferior to that of a book or encyclopedia. Today’s teachers are dealing with a new problem – the term paper websites.

Google the term “download term paper” and you might fall off your chair when you see how many websites pop up in the search results. Some will sell you a single, pre-written term paper for prices as low as $9.95. There are also services that will write you a custom paper at a very high cost. Others, such as MonsterPapers.com, will allow you to subscribe to a database of over 1 million term papers.

Using sample book reports and term papers

There are lots of sites on the internet that sell term papers. Teachers hate them. Some students love them. A lot of students don't see any value to them other than plagarism.

Believe it or not there is great value to a database of term papers. Think of it as an encyclopedia of information, written in a format that is interesting and familiar. We don't recommend downloading and turning in term papers you buy off the internet, but we do recommend subscribing to a site - especially if you have problems writing.

There are lots of benefits to a subscription to a term paper website:

Reading examples of term papers can give you ideas for writing your own paper

Many papers on the internet have references that you can use to find more information

You can use the issues presented in the papers to get over writers block

The papers may bring up issues that you didn't think of on your own

You can save time if you're in a crunch

Our advertising partner, Monster Papers, is by far the best bang for your buck if you are looking for a term paper service. Don't pay hundreds of dollars for one paper. Most of these papers are pulled out of databases like Monster Paper's database and resold to students.

Google Scholar - Research Paper Resource

If you do a lot of research on the web, you may have noticed links in Google's search results to a new search engine - Google Scholar. Google Scholar is a search engine the searches only academic scholarship papers.

This is what Google says on its website:

Google Scholar provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature. From one place, you can search across many disciplines and sources: peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations. Google Scholar helps you identify the most relevant research across the world of scholarly research.

I hope you've figured out by now how helpful this could be. Imagine how easy it will be to research your term paper by searching a database filled with scholarship! Instead of looking at title and skimming through pages of information, you will be able to use technology to save yourself time. Google even has a feature that allows you to check and see if the papers you find are available in your library.

Technology really is making research much simpler. Keep Google Scholar in mind next time you need to find some good references for your essay, book report, term paper, or research paper.

The bad news is that you have midterms coming up and if you're like most students you're probably already stressed out as it is! If you have a mid-term, the term paper blog is the place to come for help!

Here are some tips for reducing stress as a student:

First, do something fun EVERY DAY! You might not have a problem with this (most students don't), but if you're starting to feel stressed it becomes even more important to do something that you enjoy. This will get your mind off the stress and help you concentrate on that dreaded research paper!

Also, take frequent breaks. Your mind needs them between cramming sessions! Go for a walk, take a nap, watch a show on TV, eat dinner...you get the idea. Just do something that doesn't have anything to do with school.

The last tip is to take it one day at a time. Sometimes concentrating on the small picture can help you reduce stress. The beginning of the semester can seem overwhelming - luckily you don't have to get everything done in one day.

Don't forget to keep coming back for term paper writing information and tips to help you get through the school year!

When writing a term paper, be sure to follow this outline.

1. Tell the reader what the subject of your term paper will be

2. The body of your term paper. Include information that supports and explains your subject.

3. Summarize what you have said and how it relates to your subject. Wrap up any loose ends and conclude with something brilliant.

Works Cited - Web Pages

One of the most frequent questions I get from students writing term papers is, "how to I cite webpages?" First off, if you use a resource, you should always cite it in your paper. Neglect this and you might find yourself sitting in front of the dean trying to explain why you "forgot" to cite your references.

Anyway, here are the most common ways to cite a web page in your bibligraphy or works cited. These are the recommended formats from the National Library of Medicine. You can find more details in the National Library of Medicine Recommended Formats for Bibliographic Citation.

Standard Citation
Hays, Kristen A. Houston residents scramble out of city [Internet]. Houston (TX): Associated Press; 2005 Sep. Available from: http://www.breitbart.com/news/2005/09/22/D8CPAT9OC.html.

Now, keep in mind that there are plenty of variations, but this should get you started!
